Favorite Video Friday – Strange Celebrity Cameos

This Week: Weird Cameos

Earl Scruggs and Friends – Foggy Mountain Breakdown

First of all, what is Steve Martin even doing in this video and second of all, why did they stick him in a corner wearing a sweatshirt?

Elton John – This Train Don’t Stop Here Anymore

I don’t know what’s weirder, Justin Timberlake playing Elton John, or the real Elton John.

Greg Laswell – How the Day Sounds

I don’t know why Frodo’s in this video, but I like it.

Apologies

I need to apologize to my small but powerful group of regular followers for the recent lack of posts. I was up in Salt Lake City shooting a short for my grad school application and was far too busy for my silly blog. The short is basically a series of the same “guy meets girl” story done in the style of three different genres, each more ridiculous than the one before: Action, Western, and Musical. I’ll be posting samples as soon as I have them on this site, but in the meantime, Steven, who did the music for the musical, posted his awesome songs on his myspace (first 3 songs). Check them out for a little taste.

As far as movies for this week go, have no fear, the only thing coming out worth seeing in wide release this week is Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist. If you have access to limited release, Rachel Getting Married could be good, and RocknRolla looks pretty sweet. Oh, and you better go buy Iron Man on DVD.

This Week in Movies – 9/22/08

In Theaters:

  • Choke – Sam Rockwell in a movie based on a book by the author of Fight Club about a con-man who fakes choking in fancy restaurants. You can bet it’s going to be crude and violent. If it’s you’re type of thing, you already know about it.
  • Eagle Eye – Shia LeBeouf has a guardian angel … or does he? Either way, looks like fun.
  • Miracle at St. Anna – Spike Lee’s latest joint about an all black unit in WWII that gets trapped behind enemy lines. I don’t know much about it, except that Spike doesn’t like Clint Eastwood.
  • Nights in Rodanthe – The latest Nicholas Sparks novel to be adapted to the big screen. I’ll be avoiding it like the plague, I suggest you do the same.

On Video:

  • Sex and the City – You may have heard of this one.
  • Leatherheads – It was fun, but could’ve been a lot better.
  • Run Fatboy, Run – Simon Pegg is fat, so he signs up for a marathon to win back his ex. I’ll watch just about anything with Pegg in it.
  • Deception – Ewan McGregor does naughty things and gets in trouble. Not interested.
  • Foot Fist Way – It comes highly recommended by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, so you know I’m watching it.

Favorite Video Friday – Picture Pages

This one’s for Megan.

This Week: Photographs

CSS – Move

I want that van.

Sia – Breathe Me

Stop-Motion never gets old.

The Raconteurs – Salute Your Solution

If Jack White and Dave Grohl somehow mated and had a baby, it would be the Messiah of Rock.

This Week in Movies – 9/15/08

In Theaters:

  • Ghost Town – The dude from the British Office sees dead people.
  • Igor – John Cusack is a cartoon hunchback with delusions of grandeur. I really want to see this, but that may just be all the visions of “Eye-gore” left in my head from Young Frankenstein.
  • Lakeview Terrace – Samuel L. Jackson plays a cop who doesn’t know how to play nice. Predictability ensues.
  • My Best Friend’s Girl – Pie boy and Dane Cook in another romantic comedy. Dane Cook plays a douchebag who acts like a fool. It’s a stretch, I know.
  • Appaloosa (Limited) – Ed Harris and Viggo Mortensen play lawmen in the old west. I don’t care what happens, I’m already on board. Someone fly me to New York or LA please.
  • Battle in Seattle (Limited) – A fictional recreation of the 1999 Seattle riots using actual audio and some actual video. I’m interested. Someone in NYC go see this and tell me if it’s any good.
  • A Thousand Years of Good Prayers (Limited) – An old man from Beijing tracks down and visits his estranged daughter. Despite my lame synopsis, this one looks worth watching.

On Video:

  • Made of Honor – This movie has been clinically proven to cause rampant stupidity among lab rats.
  • Speed Racer – One thing’s for sure, it’s fun to look at.
  • The Love Guru –  Don’t encourage him.
  • 88 Minutes – Al Pacino hasn’t made a decent movie in at least a decade.
